Set during the Ice Age, a sabertooth tiger, a sloth, and a wooly mammoth find a lost human infant, and they try to return him to his tribe. A star-studded cast provides the voices for the prehistoric creatures in this computer-animated feature set 20,000 years ago as the Ice Age approaches. Seemingly anti-social Manny, a woolly mammoth (voiced by Ray Romano), acts as if he just wants to be left alone. When he meets Sid (voiced by John Leguizamo), a sloth, the two become unlikely traveling companions. The plot thickens when the duo finds a human infant and decides to try to return the child to its "herd". Manny slowly but surely reveals his heart of gold, while Sid continues to provide comic relief. Diego (voiced by Denis Leary), a saber-tooth tiger with ulterior motives, soon joins them in their search for the humans. Ultimately, this group of misfits becomes its own herd, learning about friendship and loyalty as they brave snow, ice, freezing temperatures, predators, hail, and even boiling lava pits. All the while, a saber-tooth squirrel, Scrat, provides comic relief as he valiantly struggles with an acorn. A well-written, humorous script and endearing characters mesh well with the state-of-the-art technology and effects. Other stars lending their voices to the feature include Goran Visnjic, Jack Black, and Jane Krakowski.

Not a cold movie.Reviewed by Braindead from Cape Town on 10 December 2002 506 of 1038 people found the following review helpful: "Ice Age" is a terrific movie for people all ages! "Monster, Inc.", "Shrek", [etc.] have their uniqueness but I must admit that "Ice Age" is up there with them on my list of great animated kids movies
When a baby Eskimo is separated from his clan because of a band of sabre toothed tigers, it's up to a strange band of animals to restore him to his family. There's Manfred the mammoth (Ray Romano), who is a loner yet is forced to travel with his other companions. Sid (John Leguizamo), the sloth who has plenty of laughs up his sleeves. The last of the three members is Diego (Denis Leary), a sabre toothed tiger who is not all that he seems. Will the three be able to bring the baby back to his clan?
Great movie enterainment, I highly recommend for all to see it. It has its very hilarious moments which are too numerous to name. I especially love the banter between Diego and Sid. The characters are so much fun that you can't help but love them and cheer them on. Oh, and check out a very funny squirrel like animal who's only love is an acorn he cannot part with! :)
So all in all, "Ice Age" is lots of fun for the family. This is the type of movie where no one can get bored since the movie has all the elements of a great family film; good plot, lots of humor, and a great show of what friendship is.

I rate this even more entertaining than Toy Story and Shrek - the visuals are amazing, the story line captivity, intelligently humoristic and thrilling!
You'll want to watch it over and over. Was this review helpful?
