Oxidants are tiny destructive particles, known as free radicals, that cumulate within the body causing all sorts of diseases and signs of early ageing. Free radicals are produced in excess by normal metabolic processes that have been sped up as in the cases of stress, illness, heat, smoking, alcohol intake etc. Antioxidants aid in removing these free radicals that attack the healthy cells in the body. Vital Antioxidant is made with the following antioxidants vitamins: Vitamin C; Vitamin E; Beta Carotene and Selenium.
Free from: Preservatives, artificial flavours, yeast, lactose and gluten.
Pack size: 30 Capsules
Directions for use: Take 1 capsule daily, or as otherwise required.
Benefits:
Vitamin C
Strengthens resistance against colds, flu, and chest infections. Fights bacterial infections.
Helps to prolong the effects of ageing.
Cannot be stored in the body and therefore must be supplemented. Particularly important to those who smoke, alcohol and smoking destroy vitamin C.
Beneficial effects on the cells lining the inside of arteries, which allow the blood vessel walls to open and close in response to stimuli.
As a Antioxidant, it scrubs blood vessels of free radicals, which are higher destructive molecules.
Strong support through research for Vitamin C having protective effects from certain kinds of cancer.
Beta-carotene
As a antioxidant, it protects and neutralises the cells from harmful free radicals. Also helps protect against cigarette smoke, pollutants, ageing, cancer and the sun.
Important in eyesight. It is needed for the formation of rhodopsin (visual purple), which allows us to see at night and helps maintain the health of the cornea (covering of the eye).
vAids in the growth and repair of body tissue, which helps maintain smooth, soft, disease-free skin.
Internally it helps protect the mucous membranes of the nose, sinuses, lungs, eyelids, mouth, throat, stomach and intestines, thereby reducing the susceptibility to infection.
Other important functions of vitamin A include the building of strong bones and teeth, the formation of rich blood, reproduction and cell membrane stability and development.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E aids in the absorption of beta-carotene.
As a antioxidant, it opposes oxidation of substances in the body. It prevents saturated fatty acids & vitamin A from breaking down and combining with other substances that may become harmful to the body.
Selenium
It is part of a nutritional antioxidant system that protects cell membranes and intracellular structural membranes.
As a antioxidant, Selenium prevents or slows down the bio-chemical ageing process of tissue degeneration and hardening - that is, loss of youthful elasticity. (this protection of the tissues and cell membranes is enhanced by Vitamin E)
Selenium is though to offer protection against cardiovascular disease and found to have an anticarcinogenic effect. (good Selenium levels correlate with low cancer rates.)
It protects us from the toxic effects of heavy metals and other substances. (cigarette smoking, alcohol, and oxidised fat)
Contra-indications:
Vitamin C
Large doses may have some effect on some people, symptoms can be slight burning sensation during urination, loose bowels or diarrhoea, intestinal gas or abdominal pain, skin rashes and nausea.
Some people have a rare genetic disease that forms kidney stones when large amounts are taken.
Vitamin E
Only toxic in high blood pressure patients as it raises the blood pressure and people with a chronic rheumatic heart disease.
Selenium
Toxic symptoms are loss of hair, teeth and nails, weak or black fingernails, dermatitis, garlic odour to the body or the breath, skin that is not readily cured, lethargy and paralysis. Severe toxicity results in fever, an increased respiratory and capillary rate, gastrointestinol distress and myelitis.
