not the best, but ok for TV on LCDReviewed by Unknown from Cape Town, South Africa on 02 April 2008 162 of 319 people found the following review helpful: Firstly, I received the product after about 10 working days. Could be due to public holidays causing disruptions.
This is the cheapest brand stand-alone TV tuner I could find in S.A. So, I wasn't looking for dream features.
The product build quality is acceptable for the price.
Standard I/O connectors are as per spec and no problems with loose connections.
The user manual IMO could be more user friendly. You have to negotiate your way through the OSD menus yourself to get used to the setup.
The channel tuning setup for e.g. could be better explained in the user manual. It would have made it easier to decide to either do manual tuning or auto scanning.
Channel exchange (swapping) is a bonus and works well when selecting auto scanning.
TV output is very good compared to standard CRT TVs. Bear in mind that the output will only be as good as the input signal, so check your antenna and cabling if you get bad TV picture.
I have a Samsung 226BW LCD monitor running on 1280x1024, so ideal resolution for my setup. However, I can't get the PIP to work properly using the tuner as a pass-thru for my PC VGA output - very unstable picture.
Also, the VGA pass-thru makes the image a bit softer, so text is not so good, but OK for movies. This is the main downside of this tuner. I mean, what's the use of having this feature if it spoils the image.
Personally I'd rather use a DVI output from PC to monitor and the TV tuner output to the D-sub input of the monitor. Luckily I can do this with the Samsung 226BW - it has switchable DVI and D-sub inputs. Was this review helpful?
