Life is going nowhere for Shaun. He spends his life in his local pub, The Winchester with his best mate Ed, has issues with his Mum and neglects his girlfriend Liz. When Liz dumps him, Shaun finally decides to get his life in order. He must win back the heart of his girlfriend, repair his relationship with his mum and face up to the responsibilities of adulthood. Unfortunately, THE DEAD are returning to life and attempting to eat the living. For the newly inspired Shaun this is just another obstacle. In the face of a full scale ZOMBIE EPIDEMIC, armed with a cricket and spade, Shaun sets out with Ed in tow, to rescue his mum and grudingly his step-dad, his girlfriend and even more grudgingly her friends David and Dianne and take them to the safest most secure place he knows, The Winchester. een van die beter flieks...Reviewed by Mnr Wikus J Janse van Rensburg from Port livingstone on 01 March 2006 20 of 37 people found the following review helpful: Okay so nie alle britse flieks kan as goed gesien word nie, veral nie met al die stront wat mens deesdae kry nie, maar hier is dit 'n ander geval en ons kry 'n gruwel storie wat nie gruwel aangedrewe is nie maar wat bou op die karakters. Die gruwel oorweldig ook nie en vorm deel die komiese oomblikke van die fliek. nie te sleg nie en totaal en al anders as al die ander Zombie flieks wat al vanaf '02 uitgekom het. BrilliantReviewed by Mo on 23 May 2005 20 of 41 people found the following review helpful: Ha ha ha. one of the funniest movies ever. Shawn of the dead is for sure one of the funniest British movies ever. Get it. Dry, Stupid, British comedy at its best. Was this review helpful?
Apocalyptic Weapon of Choice: The Cricket PaddleReviewed by James Turner from Johannesburg, South Africa on 03 April 2006 16 of 35 people found the following review helpful: For some horror fans, satirizing the zombie genre (and let's face it, zombie films are practically a genre unto themselves) could seem like sacrilege. With the serious films that have come before - 28 Days Later, Dawn of the Dead, and, of course, Night of the Living Dead - SHAUN OF THE DEAD leads us down a path few have dared tread (Evil Dead fans should check out this film to see how a REAL spoof is pulled off). Leave it to the British to give us some gritty dialogue and bloody comedy all rolled into one. I, for one, say "thank you."
The thing that helps this film stand out above other spoofs is that it doesn't dismiss the zombie-genre, but instead respects it and utilizes it to great comedic advantage. It's not slapstick, nor bathroom humor (although there is a touch of this thanks to Ed's bowels), but a set of co#*@% narratives and script that pulls the viewer into these characters lives and forces us to live with them. Most of us have seen, or have family members who are, in some way, these stereotypical losers. You can't help but cheer them on and hope that they survive their own failings. And that's where SHAUN OF THE DEAD gives you the emotional umpf! that you need to enjoy the movie. You care about them and laugh at their ridiculous inadequacies, both at the same time.
This is truly a great film. A+ ...especially for creativity.

Not too badReviewed by WJ van Niekerk from Alberton on 22 November 2004 13 of 39 people found the following review helpful: It was only a matter of time with all the current zombie movies e.g Resident Evil, Dawn of the Dead, etc. before someone made a movie that mocks with all of them. Laugh out loud funny at most times, although the film tries to be serious at certain points (Why? It doesn't add integrity to the film). I also sheepishly have to admit that I sometimes had trouble understanding what the actors were saying (the cockney accents are quite overpowering; but this is a british movie, after all). Very good special features, although ultimately I'd recommend you watch the movie first before making the judgement of buying or not. Was this review helpful?
