Not That Bad...Reviewed by Mr Ian Campbell from South Africa on 08 March 2007 51 of 100 people found the following review helpful: After reading the previous review, I feel I must write one too, just more positive. I first saw the movie on TV, now I'm buying the DVD. This movie does have a good storyline, and a very powerful, but subtly portrayed theme. Basically Mickey Rourke plays a man who has developed a polished routine for seducing women. He is so damn good at it that Kim Basinger can not resist, and engages in an erotic relationship with him. Eventually she extricates herself, and he admits that he actually has fallen for her, but its too late. The way Rourke does his bit, and the whole emotional manipulation plot is very believable, and very well done. I was so impressed I just have to buy it, because almost everything Rourke does is designed to deepen his emotional hold on Basinger, and you can miss a lot on the first viewing. Terrible disappointedReviewed by Mr Thandanani Makhathini from Durban,South Africa on 14 June 2004 98 of 216 people found the following review helpful: I have heard of this movie some time back & have alwaz wanted to see it but due to its unavailability on video outlets I decided to purchase it the 1st time Kalahari advertised that it was available.Oh! boy was I disappointed oh!what.Firstly there is nothing wrong with the picture on DVD itself its perfect. The problem is the story line its so terrible written that the sex scenes do not make up for the badly acted movie. The movie is all about this executive man who meets this lovely woman(kim Basinger)& ensues a relationshiop based on absurd love games.people who know good movies eg Lady Chatterly's Lover, The Hairdresser's Husband,Lovers of the Arctic Cycle,Sex & Lucia, L'Appartmente, The unbeareable lightness of being,Malena,That obscure object of desire, etc will know what Iam talking about.Im not critising the performance of the actors per se in this movie but the story line. The actors do what the directors want them to do. There is no sense in it at all eg if you have seen any of the above movies some of them have a fair share of love scenes & nudity but the story line is good.To tell the truth I regret having bought the DVD if any one wants it I would sell it for half the purchase price. So dont waste your money on this one its totally trash. I have never rated any kalahari item so low but this one is terrible terrible badly written. If I may add the sex scenes are too sensored.if u think squeezing, feeding & sucking honey off yo partner is sexy enough then this one is for you. When u watch a good movie there must be some mind blowing scenes whether or not there is nudity but ...See the movie "Damage" u will dig what I mean.in that movie there is a lot of sex scenes & it is sensored but the cinematography & story line is so well portrayed U would swear it was for real. Not necessarilly that there must be always a lesson the viewers must learn but that something that touches your heart is hugely missing in 91/2 weeks. To all those who love Rookie & Kim Basinger sorry U will be disappointed this time.I recommend that u hire it first & see If u want a movie like it.If u want it email me: thanda@kzngambling.co.za I swear I will let u have it for half the price.
