There is excitement in the Delhi-based Verma family, as their daughter, Aditi, is about to get married to Hemant Rai, who is settled in Houston, USA. Lalit, Aditi's dad is busy giving a piece of his mind to a slacker wedding contractor, P.K. Dubey, who is running far behind schedule. His niece, Ria, is contemplating going to the USA to take up a profession; His wife, Pimmi, is busy smoking in the sly in the bathroom; And then the family and guests begin to arrive, from all over India, USA and Australia. The engagement ceremony is celebrated with great pomp and ceremony, and after that everybody retires to get some much needed sleep - everyone except the bride to-be - she is off to meet her lover, a TV Producer, not knowing that her visit at this late hour - is going to change her life forever.

As the romantic monsoon rains loom, the extended Verma family reunites from around the globe for a last-minute arranged marriage in New Delhi. "Monsoon Wedding" traces five intersecting stories, each navigating different aspects of love as they cross boundaries of class, continent and morality. The bride to be, Aditi, on the rebound from an aborted love affair with her former boss, Vikram, agrees to marry Hemant, an engineer from Houston. Suddenly apprehensive about becoming a housewife in Texas, Aditi re-visits her lover the day before the wedding, throwing her future into turmoil. Ria is the unmarried writer cousin of the bride. As she watches Aditi plunge recklessly into marriage, Ria begins to assert herself to her family, defying convention and revealing a disturbing secret she has suppressed for many years... Sexy Delhi "babe", Ayesha, another cousin of the bride, meets Rahul, a sophomore at the University of Sydney returning to India after five years. Surprised by Ayesha's boldness, Rahul becomes infatuated with this brazen young Indian woman who challenges all his assumptions about contemporary Indian culture. Meanwhile, the father of the bride, Lalit Verma and his wife Pimmi, have endured the ups and downs of a fairly traditional marriage for years. As their daughter prepares to marry and leave home, they reach out to each other once again, finding deep comfort in the history they have shared. The cellphone-wielding wheeler-dealer, P.K. Dubey, who's hired as the Tent and Catering contractor for the elaborate wedding celebrations accidentally spies on the family's maid, Alice, as she secretly dresses in the ornaments of her mistress and finds himself falling hopelessly in love with her. "Monsoon Wedding" is a celebration of the sensual pleasures of cinema, of love at any age - anytime, and the importance of family.
