Judge John Deed is the longest-running BBC legal drama starring Martin Shaw (The Professionals), Jenny Seagrove (The Guardian) Barbara Thorn (Trail & Tribulation) and Sir Donald Sinden (Never The Twain). Judge John Deed stars as a recently-appointed High Court judge who actively seeks justice in the cases before him, while at the same time trying to rekindle an old romance with Jo Mills QC, who regularly appears in his court. Not afraid to question the establishment in search of justice his working class background and eventful life makes him a personable judge looking for the truth.
Judge John Deed Series 3 and 4 sees him meet challenges in the court room and his personal life head on. His refusal to never compromise is put to test by a series of tough cases. Series 3 sees a trial eventually come to a close, a man on the run for 16 years is finally brought to trial defended by Deed's long time friend Jo Mills QC. This soon becomes a trial on the original detectives. Jurors are intimated and witnesses scared to show when three young man face court charged with shooting a rival drug dealer. Deed takes matters into his own hands and tries to change the witness's minds by visiting them. A shocking not guilty verdict is given to a prisoner caught on camera killing a paedophile with just two days left on his sentence.
Series 4 is just as suspenseful as a fire-bomb in the new science facility kills a scientist and appears to be the work of animal activists. As the judge propes deeper the truth is unveiled. Deed is also fighting personal heartache when he is crushed by the news that Jo Mills is intending to marry.
Facing justice to be served in and out of the courtroom Judge John Deed continues to be as powerful as ever.
