"From this day to the ending of the world, we in it shall be remembered. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers. For he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother." Based on Stephen E. Ambrose's non-fiction best seller, Band Of Brothers tells the story of Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army. Starting with their rigorous training in Georgia in 1942, it recounts the achievements of the elite Rifle Company from D-Day to the fall of Nazi Germany and the surrender. Drawn from hours of interviews with survivors, as well as soldiers' journals and letters, Band Of Brothers chronicles a unit that took huge casualties and whose lives became legend. Superb value for money!Reviewed by Albert Swanepoel from Pretoria, South Africa on 19 June 2005 263 of 546 people found the following review helpful: Spielberg and Hanks exceeded their achievement in Saving Private Ryan with this biographical portrait of Easy Company, complete with brief interviews with the survivors of the group. The realism is frightening and each episode focuses on the different perceptions and experiences of troops within the company - from leadership to the medic's perspective, to the insurmountable fear of those not cut out for war (who is?). An all-time achievement, this series is said to be the most expensive in history, yet this box set costs almost a third of what it is priced at retail stores. If you have an interest in the American involvement in Normandy on and after D-Day, this is a must. If not for superb directing, masterful photography and editing, or wonderful acting, just get it for a brilliant musical score! Was this review helpful?
