In South Africa, with its large English-speaking community, the NIV (New International Version) has become one of the most widely accepted contemporary Bible translations today. It took 10 years to complete the New International Version (NIV). The process started in 1968 and was completed in 1978. Over 100 scholars from six English-speaking countries, including Bible scholars and English stylists, worked on this translation. Throughout the process, the mandate to faithfully and accurately translate the original Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic biblical texts into clearly understandable English, was adhered to.
