A pro-SA stab at the flaws of the supposedly greener pastures that many South Africans have fled to in recent times; specifically, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the US and Canada. A pro-SA stab at the flaws of the supposedly greener pastures that many South Africans have fled to in recent times; specifically, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the US and Canada. Five South African journalists have written about their respective experiences living overseas: the result is a collection of meaningful insights into cultures and countries that - whether over-regulated, mired in mediocrity, insidiously bigoted, lost in disturbing priorities or just plain boring – we thought we knew, but didn't really. TopicalReviewed by Brian from Newland, Cape Town on 07 February 2007 275 of 572 people found the following review helpful: What do you when you're thinking about emigrating? First thing to realise is that the grass isn't always greener... I've lived in Australia and Canada (along with the other three countries in the book - NZ, the UK and the US - we are told that these are the destinations of choice for SA emigres) and I know this first-hand. But, thankfully, this isn't a simple ra-ra South Africa bash-the-other-countries crusade - the five writers all show fondness and some compassion for the countries they used to live in. I guess it's all about perspective - South Africans living in Australia or the UK might not appreciate this book, but I sure did. Was this review helpful?
