* Subtitled 'An old man, a young man, and life's greatest lesson', this is a true story of a man's rediscovery of his mentor - a book about second chances. Maybe it was a grandparent, or a teacher or a colleague. Someone older, patient and wise, who understood you when you were young and searching, and gave you sound advice to help you make your way through it. For Mitch Albom, that person was Morrie Schwartz, his college professor from nearly twenty years ago. Maybe, like Mitch, you lost track of this mentor as you made your way, and the insights faded. Wouldn't you like to see that person again, ask the bigger questions that still haunt you? Mitch Albom had that second chance. He rediscovered Morrie in the last months of the older man's life. Knowing he was dying of ALS - or motor neurone disease - MItch visited Morrie in his study every Tuesday, just as they used to back in college. Their rekindled relationship turned into one final 'class': lessons in how to live. TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE is a magical chronicle of their time together, through which Mitch shares Morrie's lasting gift with the world. 'A beautifully written book of great clarity and wisdom that lovingly captures the simplicity beyond life's complexities' M Scott Peck, author of THE ROAD LESS TRAVELLED. 'This is a true story that shines and leaves you forever warmed by its afterglow' Amy Tan, author of THE JOY LUCK CLUB 'A moving tribute to embracing life.' GLASGOW HERALD 'Albom is naturally a colourful writer... Morrie Schwartz stands out as inspiring.' IRELAND SUNDAY TRIBUNE 'This is a touching tale of a brave man... It makes me wish he'd been my teacher too.' DAILY EXPRESS 'There is much in this short volume about humility and the peculiar difficulties of being a human being now. I felt a lot better after reading it.' THE TIMES

Mitch Albom is the best!Reviewed by Mr Zahir Jacobs from Cape Town on 22 December 2004 403 of 798 people found the following review helpful: I got this book as a left-over of my friend's Bar Mitsvah gifts, and even for a throwaway like this I've come to treasure it dearer than my signed copy of Max du Preez's Art of Leadership. It's a story about a dying man who becomes a young man's mentor and spiritual guru. The old man repeats "One you're prepared to die, you're prepared to live" alot. Halfway through the book I couldn't help but begin to pity the young man, he seemed so lonely and unhappy and unfulfilled that the old man's attention really tickled him in the right spot. I'm not being cynical but this book taught me a lot about life. It taught me that you can't learn how to live a good life by keeping your nose buried in books, you have to, as the coach himself says, live. I also got the idea that Mr Albom tried very hard to make this an incredible tear-jerker of a novel. This book was also made into a brilliant movie starring Jack Lemmon and Hank Azaria.
