Take a BreakReviewed by Unknown from South Africa on 21 April 2008 195 of 383 people found the following review helpful: An avid fan of both Nigella Lawson's food philosophy and writing style, I was keen to purchase the book, and even more enthusiastic to try out the recipes. Alas - Nigella Express is disappointing. The cover is enticing, the layout is clean and uncluttered. The food styling is excellent and the book is chock full of Nigella's inimitable wit and candour. The recipes, however, disappoint the palate.Perhaps the best chapter is the Breakfast - the recipe for Pancakes with Blueberry Syrup is excellent and is a winner for busy mums. Other sections of the book deal with quick, healthy lunches and food-on-the-go - both of which will be appreciated by harried time-deprived executives. However, if cooking is not a chore, but a hobby and a form of stress relief you will be left feeling like a sunken souffle. I much prefer the Nigella of the Domestic Goddess and Feast era - who preached domestic perfection through the kneading of bread and painstaking cake decoration. On the whole the book provides some good, tasty recipes but approach with caution if you are a Nigella Lawson fan.

Stripped down perfectionReviewed by Unknown from Johannesburg, South Africa on 21 July 2008 153 of 301 people found the following review helpful: I am a Nigella fan and have all her books. Express fills the gap superbly between the long drawn out recipes of her other books and really puts the skates on but does not sacrifice flavour. Her recipe for Salmon in Mirin is exceptional and will defy your tastbuds to ever enjoy a restaurant salmon again. Not all the recipes can be done quickly. Certain recipes have speedy preperation and long cooking, or overnight marinading. Her recipes never fail and I would recommend this book to any level of cook, she lays out the steps with simple to follow guide lines and tips. Really a must have. Was this review helpful?
