Na ebe ke wena? – "Is it you?" is a Sesotho cowboys and crooks-story. Tahleho, the teenage boy who relates the story in the first person, one day notices a man on horseback approaching their house. Despite the stranger's refusal to disclose his background, the boy's father gives him work and invites him to stay. While the man is out, Tahleho discovers a Bible, a preacher's outfit and a roll of bank notes in his luggage. Only right at the end is the mystery cleared up of a man who appears good yet picks up several fights: he has come tho revenge the murder of his father, a priest.
This novel is ideal reading for young adults and could fruitfully be used in the classroom. Black and white spot illustrations brighten up the text.
Lucas Mohloboli is a first-time writer who lives just outside Bloemfontein.
