Guides readers to an understanding of the concepts of hydraulics and surface water hydrology as they are used in everyday civil engineering practice. This book begins by acquainting readers with the principles of hydrostatics and hydrodynamics, starting with fluid mechanics and progressing through pressure, flow, and energy considerations. Expanded from 12 to 15 chapters, this edition of Introduction to Hydraulics and Hydrology continues to guide readers to an understanding of the concepts of hydraulics and surface water hydrology as they are used in everyday civil engineering practice. Valued as a reference by professional civil engineers, land developers, public works officials, and land surveyors throughout the U.S., this book is also an important tool for students in these disciplines. The book begins by acquainting readers with the principles of hydrostatics and hydrodynamics, starting with fluid mechanics and progressing through pressure, flow, and energy considerations. In the expanded treatment of open channel flow, varied flow is presented, including backwater profiles and hydraulic jumps. Next, concepts of rainfall, runoff, and routing are fully explored and investigated. Finally, these concepts are applied to the solution of practical engineering problems, including: open-channel flow, orifice and weir flow, culvert flow and storm sewer design, culvert design, and detention basin design.A history of water engineering and discussion of the basic concepts of computation and design are included at the beginning of the book for the benefit of readers who may be new to this field. Clearly solved examples are also included throughout the book to assist readers in their efforts to apply theory to practice.

Stormwater ManagementReviewed by James Lishman from Pretoria on 20 July 2007 8 of 13 people found the following review helpful: I found the book very informative as I wrote the Hydrosim Software in use in SA and use this book to enhance the software. For a non-civil engineer I found it easy and it should benefit civil engineers in SA in enhancing their understanding and application of Stormwater theory & Practise Was this review helpful?
